Storm Jocelyn: Maps show giant 473 mile wall of rain hurtling towards UK in fresh chaos

Britain will be hit with a second storm just hours after Isha battered the nation with a huge 473-mile of rain moving towards the UK. Latest weather maps suggest damaging gusts hurtling towards the country covering areas from Wick to Manchester.

Storm Jocelyn is set to unleash powerful winds and heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusts reaching a minimum of 70mph.

The Irish Met Office has officially designated the storm, while the UK forecaster has issued weather warnings extending until Wednesday, January 24.

The second storm will add to the woes of several travellers and residents who have been facing disruptions due to Storm Isha.

Flights have been diverted and many homes were left without electricity supply as Storm Isha caused havoc across the country.

Maps from WXCharts show parts of Scotland, such as Wick, Inverness, and Fort William battered with heavy rain and strong winds tomorrow. These areas are likely to witness rainfall up to 72mm, maps suggest.

While areas such as Newcastle and Manchester might see rain up to 40mm, as per the WXCharts maps.

Storm Jocelyn is expected to bring “vigorous southwest to west winds” and potentially destructive gusts that may result in significant coastal waves, challenging travel conditions, fallen trees, and potential damage to power lines and structures that are already weakened.

Further south including London and the South East of Britain will be hit with a yellow warning in place between midday Tuesday and 3pm Wednesday with the region to be battered by storm winds.

A widespread severe weather warning enveloped the entire UK overnight when Storm Isha hit, with the Met Office verifying wind speeds nearing 100mph.

The initial yellow wind warning remains effective until midday today, followed by a second warning from 4pm until midday tomorrow, encompassing all regions north of the Midlands.

Potential risks include life-threatening situations due to flying debris and substantial coastal waves, alongside the likelihood of widespread power outages and transportation disruptions.

Today:

Storm Isha will gradually pull away from the UK, though it will remain windy for all, with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent in the north and west. Feeling chilly.

Tonight:

Showers will generally ease through the evening, though will continue across the northwest of the UK through the night. Dry, with clear spells elsewhere. Winds easing for a time.

Tuesday:

A bright start, particularly in the east. Cloud and rain quickly moving in from the west. Winds increasing, with gales or severe gales possible. Mild for the time of year.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A mixture of sunshine and blustery showers on Wednesday. Staying windy on Thursday, with some patchy rain moving northeastwards. Drier in the south on Friday, showers continue in the north.
