Storm Gerrit tracker LIVE: Met Office issues urgent weather warning as snow and gales hits


Britain is set to be battered by Storm Gerrit today, as the Met Office has issued a staggering nine weather warnings all across the country.

According to the latest predictions by the forecaster, 70mph gales will wreak havoc across the country as Brits try desperately to get home after the Christmas break.

So far, the Met Office has issued rain, snow and wind warnings across Scotland from 3am today until midnight tonight. Elsewhere a wind and rain warning is in place for Wales from midnight today, until 3am tomorrow morning.

There is also a warning for rain across the north of England from 3am until 6pm today, and in the south, a yellow wind warning is in place for the south coast for the same period. A rain and wind warning is also in place from 2am until 10am today in Northern Ireland.

Those taking to the roads today to head home after Christmas have been urged to be careful on their journeys. Transport disruption and power cuts are possible, and the heavy rain across England and Wales could lead to flooding.
