Southampton fire: Shocking video shows black smoke pouring from building near St Mary's

Shocking new footage has shown black smoke billowing from a building just meters away from Southampton’s St Mary’s football stadium.

The plume of smoke is thought to be coming from industrial units in the area, with a cordon put in place by emergency services.

Roads surrounding the area have been closed and folk living nearby have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke from the fire which broke out just after 1pm.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area “to allow movements of emergency vehicles” according to Hampshire fire service.

Southampton FC are due to take on Preston at the stadium in just a few hours’ time at 7.45pm.

Eight fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms and “other specialist” vehicles are currently on the scene.
