'So much car for the money' – Used car expert shares three impressive models for £3,000

A popular automotive personality has taken to YouTube to share a number of interesting used cars drivers can buy for no more than £3,000.

Matt, from the YouTube channel High Peak Autos, regularly produces videos in which he recommends the best models on the used car market for a certain budget.

In a recent video, Matt suggests some incredibly affordable cars that are still interesting, stating that an Audi TT is a good choice for motorists looking to stand out from the crowd.

He advised: “Now, the second generation Audi TT came out in 2006, and for £3,000 you will get yourself a decent example. Although they’re only a small car, they are two plus two [an occasional four seater], they’re quite practical. The rear seats fold down completely, and you’ll be surprised how much stuff you can get in the boot.

“They’re available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, they’re a stylish looking thing, the interiors are really high quality and they’re good fun to drive. So, if you want something sporty for your £3,000, then look no further than the Mk2 TT.”

In particular, Matt suggested the second generation of the Audi TT, which was made from 2006 to 2014, warning buyers that earlier examples may be cheaper but are often more worn out.

A sleek coupe, the YouTuber noted that the TT has impressive interior space for such a small car, featuring two small seats in the rear, which can be folded to give the car a bigger boot.

Nevertheless, Matt advised motorists interested in an Audi TT to choose a petrol-engined version with a manual gearbox, stating they are often more reliable and fun to drive compared to an automatic.

Later in the video, Matt noted that drivers looking for something a little more executive for their £3,000 budget could do far worse than a diesel-powered Jaguar S-Type.

He explained: “Now, I’m not a big diesel fan but I’m trying to be sensible. So, the 2.7-litre turbo diesel V6 is quite a good engine in the S-Type, especially if you do plenty of motorway miles.

“You’ll probably average around 28mpg around town and 42 or 44 on a motorway run. They’re quite punchy as well because it’s a V6. I really like the Jaguar S-Type, I’ve had dozens of them. They’re good cars in my opinion, you get so much car for the money.”

Finally, Matt recommended that drivers who do not care about flashy styling but still want good standard equipment should choose a Mazda 3 Sport.

He added: “Again, I really rate these. I’ve had loads of these in my time, I recommended one to my pal, who bought one, and then that was involved in an accident and they bought another. They do them in a hatchback or a saloon, both look quite cool, they have a 2.0-litre petrol engine and they come with loads of optional extras.

“You’ll get Bose audio, bright Xenon lights, loads of things like that. It just makes it a bit easier to live with. It’s from that era of cars that I like most, so it isn’t too old that you can’t really daily drive it, but it isn’t too young that it’s going to blow your budget.”
