Parts of the UK are braced for heavy snowfall later this month. The latest weather maps from WX Charts show snow hitting parts of Scotland as temperatures also tumble across the UK.
According to the maps, up to 10cm (four inches) of snow could fall in the Scottish Highlands on Tuesday, October 21. There will be downpours throughout the morning, from 6am until 12pm. Meanwhile, the mercury will drop as low as 6C in Scotland at midday in October 21, with single-figure temperatures also expected elsewhere across the nation.
The snow will arrive as early as 6am with maps showing heavy flurries across the Scottish Highlands. The white stuff could fall at a rate of up to 10cm per hour in the worst-affected areas.
At 12pm, the snow will become lighter but there will still be heavy flurries in eastern areas of Scotland. At this point, there will be temperatures of 7C in Inverness and 8C in Edinburgh.
While no snow is currently forecast in England and Wales, temperatures are expected to remain fairly low. At 12 pm on October 21, lows in Cardiff and Plymouth will be 9C.
Meanwhile, Newcastle is set for temperatures of 9C, while it will be 10C in Birmingham. London is set for the warmest temperatures, with a forecast of 14C.
According to the Met Office long-range forecast for the UK, which ranges from Monday, October 13 until Wednesday, October 22, low pressure is expected to move in from the west. This could bring unsettled and windy conditions to parts of the nation.
The forecaster is then expecting low pressure systems to “dominate” from Thursday, October 23 until Thursday, November 6. It adds: “Showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, perhaps heavy in places.”
