Sky confirms another free TV upgrade that could convince you to ditch your dish

Sky is in the middle of pushing out a major free update which adds new features, improves the personalisation, makes it easier to find content you like watching and reduces the lag when watching live sporting events. That means viewers won’t be quite so far behind the live action when the Premier League goals hit the back of the net. This boost is rolling out to Sky Stream and Sky Glass TVs right now which means those still using Sky Q and a satellite dish will miss out.

If that’s got you thinking maybe it’s time to join the streaming revolution, Sky is also offering another upgrade that could convince you to make the switch.

Sky has confirmed that it’s boosting its Sky Live camera with a trio of extra games coming to this interactive device. For those not in the know, Sky Live sits on top of the Sky Glass television and offers ways to exercise, make instant video calls to family and play a bunch of games.

It’s that console-style function that is getting a boost with Sky dishing out a trio of extra titles.

The update includes Basketball Knockout – a game that lets you shoot hoops against your family just like at a fairground.

Then there’s the Nintendo Wii-style Tennis Smash: Racketville game. Wave your arms around to whack the ball back to your opponent and see if you can win a Grand Slam.

Finally, you can now play two-player in Starri – a new music rhythm game which lets you battle it out against your friends to see who has the best moves and can act like a pop star.

Sky Live originally launched last year and costs an extra £6 per month on top of the usual Sky Glass contract.

Although you do have to pay more, once the subscription is set up there are no additional fees for playing games, making video calls or taking part in fully interactive exercise classes.

As we mentioned earlier, one of the best new upgrades launching as part of this release is the streaming lag suffered when watching live television of Sky Glass and Sky Stream. Sky says that it is dropping this from 30 seconds down to around eight seconds.

To begin with, it will only be available to users watching sporting action on Sky Sports Main Event although more channels are expected to follow in the coming months.
