Simple and inexpensive tips can help motorists get thousands more when selling their car

Once a driver has an idea for how much they want to sell their car for, Bristol Street Motors suggested they should then get the car thoroughly cleaned.

Whilst motorists can save money by doing this themselves, the retailer highlighted that the best results are often achieved from a detailer, who will likely have the tools to make the vehicle look like new.

Drivers should also get the car serviced in order to make sure that the mechanicals are running well and that any faults can be quickly corrected before it is put on sale.

Once the car is up for sale, the spokesperson suggested that motorists should never be afraid to show potential buyers the car in person.

They added: “An online listing is very rarely enough to persuade a buyer to part with their money – you need to arrange a proper viewing to get that sale over the line.

“Talk up the car’s selling points, detail the servicing history, and offer to take the buyer on a test drive. You can also get a better feel for the buyer’s intentions in person and whether they’d be willing to meet your asking price.”

Finally, when a buyer visits to inspect the vehicle, Bristol Street Motors’ spokesperson recommended sellers always have relevant documents to hand.

They explained: “Collating all the official paperwork for your car can be a very time-consuming process, delaying when the money can be transferred into your bank account.

“To expedite this process, prepare as much of this documentation as possible ahead of any potential sale. This includes the vehicle logbook, proof or reservation and purchase, service record, MOT certificate, insurance policy, and car parts receipts.”
