Nothing is worse than going into the bathroom after a shower and seeing soap stains caked onto the glass door, but cleaning them can be simple if you use the right items. Most people dread cleaning a shower screen because soap, oil, and other product residues coat the glass and harden over time.
Shower doors also attract water droplets and steam due which can create limescale, a crusty stain made up of minerals left behind when water evaporates. These stains cling stubbornly to glass and can make cleaning them feel like a never ending task, but Eduards Vilnis, a expert from Aquatica Bath, has shared the best way to clean a shower screen is a old school method using grapefruit and salt.
Eduards said: “Grime, soap scum and rusts can often be a nasty and sometimes impossible mission to remove from bathtubs which have been sitting for a long time, without being cleaned.
“So you’ll be pretty impressed when using the grapefruit and salt combination to clean your bathtubs stains and grime.”
It may sound bizarre, but grapefruit contains citric acid, which naturally breaks down soap scum, limescale and other water stains on glass.
These stains are often alkaline, so the acid in grapefruit helps to loosen them, making them much easier to remove, so you do not have to keep wiping down your shower.
Salt is abrasive and works as a natural scrubber, helping to lift the stains after the acid has weakened them, all without scratching the glass.
How to clean shower glass screens naturally
All you need to do is slice a grapefruit in half and then sprinkle one of the slices with a generous amount of salt.
Use the grapefruit on your shower screen, and wipe it down in a circular motion. Keep squeezing the fruit to release the juice and get more citric acid onto the glass.
Next simply walk away and let the cleaning solution sit on the glass for about an hour to give it time to break down the stubborn stains.
When the time is up, rinse the glass with clean warm water using the showerhead and the glass should now be sparkling clean.
Not only is this an easy way to clean showers but it will leave your bathroom with a lovely citrus scent to make your home smell fresh as well.
