Sarah Ferguson has revealed that having cancer was like a “bomb going off” in her life during a recent interview with The Times.
The duchess, 65, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and underwent a single mastectomy. As she was recovering, she was then diagnosed with cancer again.
Last January, the Duchess of York confirmed that she had malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, and was set to undergo treatment again. The two cancer battles came less than a year apart.
While Sarah, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, is now well, she has opened up about how she felt over the last few years during her cancer journey.
She told The Times: “It was hard. I’m generally a positive person but cancer is like a bomb going off in your life.”
She continued: “One diagnosis is enough to deal with, but I had two in the space of a year.”
“I don’t mind admitting that my mind went to some dark places, reflecting on my own mortality.
“My family have been an immense support to me through this period. I’ve used meditation and mindfulness to help stay positive and balanced.”
Princess Beatrice revealed last year that her mum was doing “really well” after being through “so much”.
