An outbreak of “mouse fever” is sweeping through frontline Russian troops – the latest blow to their grueling campaign in Ukraine.
The grim disease causes people to bleed from their eyes, suffer with severe headaches and vomit several times a day. It is transmitted to humans through direct contact with rodents, or by inhaling their faeces.
Ukraine says these gory symptoms are “mowing down” frontline Russian troops. The outbreak was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate among troops in Kupyansk, where they are struggling for winter provisions.
The agency wrote on Telegram: “In the Kupyansk direction of the front of the occupiers, mouse fever is mowing down en masse. As a result, mouse fever significantly reduced the fighting ability of Russian rats.”
The disease is a type of streptococcal infection, with full symptoms listed as “severe headache, body temperature rising to 40 degrees, rashes and redness, decreased blood pressure, haemorrhages in the eyes, nausea and vomiting several times a day”.

The Main Intelligence Directorate claimed that there have been complaints made about the spreading disease, but these were ignored by Russian commanders, who saw it as an excuse to avoid fighting.
