Exiled Russian rebels committed to the overthrow of Vladimir Putin have launched a series of raids on Russian cities in a bid to destabilise the country as the nation prepares to re-elect the 71-year-old as its President.

Russia Governor Gladkov says one person as been killed and three injured as air defences shot down 10 aerial targets approaching city of Belgorod.

A statement issued by Denis Nikitin, leader of the Russian Volunteer Corps warned: “We are once again addressing the residents of Kursk and Belgorod oblasts!

“Your leadership has taken no measures for your protection or evacuation, while attacks on peaceful towns and villages in Ukraine continue unabated.

“We are forced to open fire in response upon military targets in border regions! Evacuate immediately.”
