Royal fans gush as they spot Queen Camilla paying subtle tribute to late Queen Elizabeth

Queen Camilla’s choice of brooch for the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey has sparked delight for royal style watchers on social media.

Her Majesty arrived at the Abbey dressed in a bright turquoise coat-dress by Bruce Oldfield, which she last wore for a royal visit to Berlin last spring.

Her matching hat is by Philip Treacy, which she teamed with Russell & Bromley boots, her Bottega Veneta Cassette bag and an aquamarine heart-shaped brooch.

According to Robert Hardman on the BBC broadcast, the brooch in question was once part of the late Queen Elizabeth’s impressive collection.

Fans on X shared their admiration for the piece, with one writing: “The colour and shape really suits her. Love that hat and you’re right about that brooch- it’s huge!”

Another commented: “Her Majesty looked so very beautiful here. Love this color on her. That brooch is exquisite (sic)”, while a third added: “Another lovely colour on her. Queen Camilla rocks and her Treacy hats are divine.”

One royal fan gushed: “We’re all going to be behind you today Your Majesty. You will make your darling husband so incredibly proud.”

Camilla and the heir to the throne Prince William led the rest of the attending royals at the service today, with Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester also seen entering the Abbey.

King Charles was unable to attend the service in-person as he continues to receive treatment for cancer after his diagnosis was made public last month.

He did however record a video message, played on-screen at the Abbey, in which he pledged to continue to serve the Commonwealth “to the best of my ability”.

The King highlighted how “diversity” was the Commonwealth’s core “strength”, and expressed how the union of 56 member countries was a “precious source of strength, inspiration, and pride” to him.

He said: “In recent weeks, I have been most deeply touched by your wonderfully kind and thoughtful good wishes for my health and, in return, can only continue to serve you, to the best of my ability, throughout the Commonwealth.

“My belief in our shared endeavours and in the potential of our people remains as sure and strong as it has ever been. I have no doubt that we will continue to support one another across the Commonwealth as, together, we continue this vital journey.”

Princess Kate was also absent from the service as she continues to recover at home in Windsor following her abdominal surgery in January.
