Boxing legend Ricky Hatton shared a heartbreaking post on Instagram just days before his death at the age of 46. The boxing legend was found dead at his Manchester home last month in a tragic development which shocked the sporting world. His funeral procession will take place in the city on Friday and fans have been invited to line the streets to pay their respects.
Following the news of Hatton’s death, thousands of fans flocked to his Instagram account with many left heartbroken by his final post. He was seen preparing for his planned comeback bout against Eisa Al Dah in December. In the footage, Hatton is seen taking a brisk walk on a treadmill whilst listening to Ed Sheeran’s track ‘Sapphire’.
He is heard saying: “Another 5k… good sweat on,” whilst breathing heavily. The boxer then turns the camera towards himself, appearing drenched in sweat, before raising his fist in a defiant gesture.
Captioning the post, he wrote: “Evening run in the bag. Don’t your worry about that our kid. #getupthereboy #hitman #bluemoon.”
After his death was announced, fans flooded the post with heartfelt tributes, with one person commenting: “RIP Ricky so sad, gone far too soon.”
Another added: “Rest easy champ,” while another said: “You put Manchester on the map mate. We will all miss you.” One more fan wrote: “God bless you Ricky, Manchester’s finest,” while another stated: “Rest in Peace Ricky.”
Throughout his boxing career, Hatton clinched numerous international and domestic titles, earning him the Fighter of the Year accolade in 2015.
His funeral cortege will depart from the Cheshire Cheese pub on Stockport Road in Hyde at 9.45am on Friday. It will then travel to Harehill Tavern before doves are released in Hatton’s honour at The New Inn.
There will be another pause at Hatton’s Gym before the hearse continues on to Manchester Cathedral via Hyde Town Hall, Betta Bodies gym and the AO Arena.
A private memorial service will take place at midday before the procession makes its way to the Etihad Stadium, home of Hatton’s beloved Manchester City.
