Remove orange grout stains in ’30 minutes’ without scrubbing

There’s nothing more mortifying than having guests over and realising your bathroom grout is far from pristine when they ask to use it. This can trigger a sense of embarrassment, regardless of how well you know them, and may spur you into action to clean it.

Cleaning grout can significantly enhance the appearance of a room – those tiny lines between tiles may seem insignificant, but when they’re spotless, the entire space appears fresher.

Tile grout in kitchens and bathrooms often accumulates stains and dirt, particularly in areas with heavy footfall.

Tiles located behind cookers, in showers, and around sinks are especially susceptible to staining from limescale, soap residue, food splatters, and oil marks.

Grout, the white lines separating tiles, can be challenging to maintain, but with the right products, it doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

It’s crucial to keep tile grout clean as it tends to gather debris, dust, and spills easily, and if neglected for too long, it can develop mould.

Recently, a member of the public Facebook group Mrs. Hinch Cleaning Tips asked for help on how to get rid of stubborn grout in their bathroom — and it seems there was a clear winning remedy.

Other members — a.k.a. the self-professed cleaning enthusiasts of the group — responded to the anonymous member’s post in hordes and dropped some top-tier grout-cleaning wisdom.

One cleaning product emerged as the winner and seems to be the most effective against stubborn, reddish-brown grout and that is HG Mould Spray.

Sold for £5.25 as Tesco, Asda, and Ocado, the self-acting HG Mold Spray reportedly destroys the most stubborn of mould within 30 minutes and can be used on tile grout, silicone joints, and plasterwork.

It’s recommended to ventilate the area well while using HG Mould Spray, as well as wear rubber/plastic gloves while handling the product as it’s extremely strong.

Several members of Mrs. Hinch Cleaning Tips shared their own experiences with the product and imparted cleaning advice to the original poster.

One member said: “HG Grout Cleaner, a small hard brush (not a toothbrush as they aren’t strong enough) and a handheld steam cleaner should do the job.”

Another homecleaner wrote: “Hg Mould spray. Spray all the grout, open windows and close the door. Leave for at least 30 minutes. Clean with a firm brush. Repeat if required. It works in our cottage shower room Good luck x”

One member of Mrs. Hinch Cleaning Tips warned: “HG Mould remover spray, but open windows to ensure good ventilation.”

Another commented: “HG Mould Cleaner. Spray over the cover really well. Leave for half an hour. Then rinse. No scrubbing needed. It’s quite strong and does the job.”

Yet another member shared an important tip: “Make sure you wear protective gloves if you use this Hg Mould spray. It’s strong stuff!”

While one simply proclaimed: “HG every time! The best!”

Mrs Hinch, the nation’s cleaning sensation, herself revealed her top tip for banishing grout stains.

The Instagram phenomenon, better known as Sophie Hinchliffe, has shared an easy and wallet-friendly trick to rid your tiles of unsightly grimy grout and it’s sold at most supermarkets and costs as little as £1.29 from stores like The Range.

Taking to Instagram, the queen of clean shared her astonishment at the impressive outcome when using a simple household tool – the magic eraser.

“I wasn’t going to film this and then I thought, ‘Do you know what, I will,’ because so many people ask me about grout in tiles,” she commented while addressing her fans.

Mrs Hinch showcased the process on her own kitchen floor tiles, utilising the dampened magic eraser to effortlessly transform dingy grout into pristine white.

“Feel like I’ve got a new floor,” she jubilated. “So if you need to tackle your dirty grout, buy some magic erasers. Look at the difference. Absolutely buzzing.”

These wonder sponges are devoid of chemicals and boast multifunctional use, proficient at removing various stains, marks, and scratches from countless washable surfaces with little to no elbow grease.

Moreover, they’re a powerhouse against wall scribbles made by crayons and stubborn hob grease patches.
