Remove bathroom limescale with cleaner’s two-minute cleaning hack

Charlotte Hughes, a cleaning expert at Plumbworld, revealed the two-minute hack that removes limescale using a common kitchen item.

Limescale develops when the minerals in hard water – namely calcium and magnesium – are left behind once the water evaporates.

“Lemon juice is rich in citric acid, which naturally breaks down limescale without damaging your taps or fixtures,” said Charlotte.

“It’s a quick, effective solution that not only clears the deposits but also leaves your taps looking refreshed and shiny.”

A pack of four lemons can be bought at the likes of Aldi for 69p, which equates to around 18p each – and the common kitchen item is comparably just as affordable at other supermarkets, such as Tesco and Asda.

How to use lemon for limescale removal

Create the solution

1. Mix the juice of a lemon with some water.

Apply the solution

2. Soak a cloth in the lemon and water mixture, then wipe it across the areas affected by limescale and let it sit for about “two minutes”.

Dry

3. For a sparkling finish, wipe the area with a dry microfibre cloth that “adds shine and prevents new limescale from forming by removing excess moisture”.

For more persistent limescale, the process may need to be repeated or undiluted lemon juice might be needed.

Charlotte added: “Finish with a dab of olive oil on a microfibre cloth for an extra polished look that repels water spots.

“To minimise future buildup, consider a weekly quick clean with the lemon solution.

“Regular maintenance will prevent limescale from hardening and becoming tougher to remove.”
