Relatable reason Princess Kate missed Prince William’s Earthshot prize last year | Royal | News

Prince William is set to fly to Cape Town next week for the fourth Earthshot Prize Awards, however Princess Kate will not be by his side.

After being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and finishing chemotherapy just two months ago, the princess, 42, has opted to stay at home in Windsor with their three children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and six-year-old Prince Louis while her husband jets off to Africa.

This is not the first time the princess has stayed behind, with the future Queen also not attending the ceremony in Singapore last year for a very important relatable reason.

While she is passionate about Earthshot and how it benefits the environment, Prince George was sitting exams at the same time the event was being held last year, with Kate prioritising staying at home to support her eldest child.

A senior Palace source said at the time: “The Princess will not be attending. Prince George has exams that week and the Princess wants to be at home to support him.”

Kate’s decision to remain at home with her son during his exams is just one example of the couple’s ambition to give their children as ordinary an upbringing as possible.

It also shows just how the couple prioritise the children, making sure one parent stays at home if the other has to go away for a royal engagement.

The narrator of the Channel 5 programme, Kate: Our Queen in Waiting, David Riley said: “When it comes to her children, Kate’s taken a very direct role in her upbringing and this very modern hands-on approach has endeared to a generation of parents across the country.”

Filmmaker Bidisha also previously said before: “Kate is a dedicated, hands-on very affectionate mother.

“I think she made it clear through her behaviour that being a mother is her main priority. She’s providing her warmth as a parent that isn’t always present in the Royal Family.”

Prince William’s trip comes after he took a mini-break from Royal duty for two weeks to spend the half-term with his children.

The family are believed to have spent the time in the UK either at their Windsor cottage or their Norfolk home.
