Reason Princess Kate and Prince William always wear blue – and it's not what you think

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children have often been seen sporting blue outfits, with one particular reason for their decision.

Aside from possibly liking the colour, it is likely chosen due to it “subtle nod to a sense of patriotism”.

Fashion experts have said that blue is Princess Kate’s signature colour and the colour often chosen for her family’s public appearances and photo calls, explained by the Mirror.

The co-ordination of their outfits also shows their unity as a family, with the decision often deemed intentional.

Author Elizabeth Holmes previously stated why the family always opt for shades of blue, she said: “The Royal Family is always very aware of the message their clothing sends.

Speaking to Vogue, Ms Holmes added: “Basic colour theory suggests blue is a colour that represents calmness and responsibility.

“For public servants raising future public servants, such an aesthetic projection is no doubt an aesthetically attractive one: the monarchy, after all, is all about stable continuity.

“Then, there’s the fact that it’s part of the Union Jack: wearing blue also subtly nods to a sense of patriotism.”

To celebrate Princess Charlotte’s eighth birthday in 2023, Kensington Palace released a sweet new photograph of her wearing a white dress dotted withn blue periwinkle flowers.

Similarly, in honour of her brother Prince Louis’s fifth birthday last year, the Palace released a photo of the cheeky royal wearing a ‘blueberry-hued’ Fairisle sweater.
