Real reason Meghan Markle didn't attend the Coronation – and it wasn't because of Archie

Millions of people celebrated King Charles III’s Coronation earlier this year, and even Prince Harry was in attendance – though Meghan Markle was a noticeable absentee.

It was believed that the Duchess of Sussex decided to miss the historic Coronation as the celebration coincided with her son, Prince Archie’s birthday.

Meghan had planned an intimate birthday party at the couple’s mansion in Montecito, California for Archie, with only close friends and family, including the former actress’s mother Doria Ragland.

The birthday party was described as ‘low-key’, and guests were treated to a lemon cake made with fruits from the Sussexes garden.

However, Archie’s party wasn’t the real reason why Meghan didn’t attend the Coronation, according to Omid Scobie.

In an interview with Elle magazine, he detailed information from close sources to the Duchess.

He said: “I know her team spoke about [how] she wasn’t coming over for the Coronation because of Archie’s birthday, but I also know from speaking with people that there was also a desire to stay away from the noise and hysteria that comes any time she sets foot near the country, let alone the family.

“And the way they were treated during the time of the Queen’s death and the funeral really reinforced for her that she had not only made the right decision, but didn’t want to go anywhere near [it] again.

“They said it loud and clear that they were looking for conversations and accountability and for people to own their roles and everything that had happened, and no one has so there is no reason for anything to change moving forward.”

“One could argue the balls are all in the Royal Family’s court, and we know that they’re not hitting them back anytime soon.”

It’s unsurprising that Meghan Markle was not eaegr to return to the UK for the King’s Coronation – Omid Scobie wrote in his book that Meghan Markle “never wants to step foot in England again”, adding that the Duchess never felt at home on this side of the Atlantic.

He wrote in his book that Meghan didn’t return for the Coronation because she didn’t want to “dive back into the soap opera [we would like to add the “old” soap opera…] of the court”.

This report comes as the couple are reportedly trying to keep a closer relationship with King Charles, with Scobie revealing they have been keeping him “up to date with their family life by sending him photos of the children”.
