Queen Camilla's subtle dig to Meghan Markle after brand deal drama

Queen Camilla appeared to make a subtle dig at Meghan Markle after she was spotted wearing a Dior number during a state visit earlier this year.

Meghan and Harry previously claimed that they had “built up a relationship” with the fashion house, with Prince Harry even opting to wear a Dior suit to King Charles’ Coronation back in May.

However, after the event, Queen Camilla was spotted wearing the designer in an apparent subtle dig at the Duchess of Sussex.

Back in September, during the King and Queen’s state visit to France, Camilla wore a bespoke Dior haute couture gown specially dreamed up by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Camilla paired the gown with her late mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond and sapphire necklace.

As well as Camilla, Dior choosing The Crown’s actress Meg Bellamy as their new face of the brand “rubs salt in the open wound” for Meghan.

Speaking recently on GB News, showbiz and royal reporter Kinsey Schofield told host Mark Dolan: “Rumours were circulating that Meghan was becoming the new face of the brand, so that source is stressing that it’s all very suspicious timing [for the snub].

“To add salt to the open wound, the actress playing Kate Middleton, Meg Bellamy in The Crown was announced as the new face of the brand.”

Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Harry have signed various deals in their quest to “become financially independent”.

Back in June, rumours began to spread that Meghan Markle was in talks to sign a deal with Dior.

These speculations grew after Meghan and Harry’s multi-million-pound deal with Spotify came to an end.

Meghan has been spotted wearing clothes by the fashion house, during and after her time as a senior royal.

The former actress, who officially joined the Royal Family in 2018, wore a Dior number to an event to celebrate the 100th year of the Royal Air Force in 2018.

Despite speculation, sources close to the royals said that no contract had been made with Meghan.

As well as this, Dior also expressed their confusion over such a rumour, with a source telling the Telegraph that the Duchess was “not in talks” and that there was “no truth” in the claims.

In November 2023, just as the first part of The Crown’s final season aired, it was confirmed that Meg Bellamy would be the new face of Dior. The 21-year-old actress plays Kate Middleton in the latest and final season of The Crown.
