Russia’s propoganda campaign against the United Kingdom has taken a bizarre turn – with a notorious Kremlin mouthpiece encouraging Scottish nationalists to “fight for their independence”. Vladimir Solovyov, made the comments on state TV after another commentator threatened the UK with “painful radiation” deaths.
Reverting from Russian to English, Solovyov told the camera in a mocking tone: “Scottish people, you have to fight for your independence. These English colonisers have no business on Scottish soil.” Fellow propagandist Andrey Sidorov chimed in on the broadcast to suggest that the Welsh should also “break free” from English rule. The UK is considered a key ally to Ukraine, and Solovyov has also alleged, without proof, that Britain has helped to carry out clandestine cyber attacks in Russia.
The propogandist also took aim at Sir Keir Starmer’s recent Strategic Defence review, when the Prime Minister committed billions more in nuclear investment and other measures to fight Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“I can’t understand why the British have gone mad [with the new UK defence review],” he said. “Where do they want to clash with us?
“Do they think that we have already landed, entered the Thames somewhere and are now storming Westminster Abbey?”
Solovyov also mocked Starmer for “never [serving] in the army”, telling viewers: “He had no basic military training at school.”
Political scientist Dmitry Evstafiev added: “They understand that if the plan for direct military confrontation with Russia, which he is talking about, is implemented, they will all be dead.
“Quickly and painfully, because death from radiation is not the best kind of death.”
It’s not the first time the prominent Moscow mouthpiece has issued warnings to the West about prospective military action following Britain’s commitment of over £10billion in arms support for Ukraine since 2022.
Solovyov, who hosts a programme on Russian state TV, warned US President Donald Trump that he should stay out of the long-running conflict to avoid escalation into a global war.
“They can’t win in the Ukrainian conflict because anyone who understands Russia and Putin knows that during the entire existence of the Russian state, it was never possible to force any Russian government into a desired outcome,” he said last month.
“This is Europe’s problem,” the propagandist added in a chilling eight-word verdict. “Europe will burn down.”
