Putin's forces 'using chemical weapons' fired from drones to attack Ukrainian troops

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) also said that Russian forces were seen using K-51 bombs in Ukraine.

K-51 aerosol grenades contain CS-gas, which is used to control rioting crowds.

The ISW has previously reported that Russia used K-51 grenades against Ukrainian forces in the eastern Donetsk region in November 2022.

If confirmed, this would constitute a violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of using chemical weapons in the war.

Ukraine has accused Russia of using K-51 bombs in December 2022.

It was also alleged that Russia dropped chemical weapons from drones near Avdiivka back in May.

The adviser to the occupied Donetsk People’s Republic accused Ukraine of using chemical weapons near Soledar and Bakhmut, but did not provide evidence.

Ukraine responded: “The enemy’s accusations of the use of chemical weapons by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are untrue.”

Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of Russia’s Security Council and a long-time ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said in early November that “the risk that nuclear, chemical and biological weapons will be used is increasing.”

As the West continues to provide military support for Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a warning to Western leaders who are planning to use frozen Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine after the war.

The Kremlin warned that “Russia will never leave those who do it alone” amid plans for Western countries to give Russian money to Ukraine.

Russia has issued a direct threat to the West, warning there will be “serious consequences” for Europe and the US if Russian assets are handed to Ukraine.
