Pub left stunned as Britain's best food eater demolishes £85 pie and mash in 28 minutes

Staff at a famous pub were left stunned after Britain’s best food eater, Adam Moran, demolished their £85 pie in just over 28 minutes.

Mr Moran visited the Black Friar pub in Salford earlier this year to take on the challenge for his Beard Meats Food YouTube channel.

Ahead of the mighty challenge, Mr Moran said: “You’re supposed to share one of these pies between four people, but if you can finish one solo in one sitting you don’t get it free, but you get your drinks paid for the entire evening.”

As the chef brought it over, he revealed the pie Mr Moran would be attempting to consume was “about three kilos”.

Following the challenge, which Mr Moran completed in 28 minutes and 36 seconds, those in the pub were full of praise for his achievement, showering Mr Moran with a round of applause.

One onlooker said: “That is amazing! I’ve never seen anybody eat like that before! A fantastic achievement, it’s made my day!”

Upon completion of the pie, Mr Moran said it was “delicious” and “really good” before celebrating in the venue.

The pub where Mr Moran completed his challenge also has its own interesting story. Originally built in 1886, the current owners said it was left “derelict” for 15 years.

On their site, they explained: “An extensive refurbishment in 2021 aimed to bring harmony between the old and new.

“We like to think it’s somewhere everyone feels at home. Our unique, independently owned pub has something for all tastes and fancies. Tuck into honest grub in the Pub, or dine á la carte in the grand Glass Room.

“If the sun is shining (miracles do happen) our award-winning Garden and outdoor Tavern is the perfect place to top up your tan with a cocktail.”

The pub has also received rave reviews on Tripadvisor since it was reopened. User, MarkB23547 said: “We visited on a Friday evening with our daughter who has just moved into a flat around the corner.

“The food is fabulous and [it’s] high-quality gastropub, but at a reasonable price. The service was excellent and the visit was a pleasure. To cap it all, as a now regular local, our daughter got a tag to get 15% off in the future. We will definitely be back!”

Fellow visitor John added: “The menu choice was excellent and the food was superb. The portion size especially fries was a little on the slight side but the quality was second to none. The burgers were great.

“The desserts were sublime. Great Value for money and we were allowed to chill and relax and take in the venue. Nobody hounding us for the table once we had finished.”
