Princess Kate’s work ethic slammed as Duke of Gloucester completes more engagements

Princess Kate has been slammed for having a “bad work ethic” after it was revealed she carried out engagements this year than the late Queen’s cousin. The number of engagements completed by each royal in 2023 has been revealed by the Telegraph in an analysis of public events and official meetings published in the Court Circular.

The royal who completed the most was Princess Anne, who is known as the hardest-working royal. She carried out 457 engagements with an average of 12 to 14 a week. King Charles followed in second place with 32 fewer engagements at a total of 425.

The third, fourth, and fifth places were filled by Prince Edward, Queen Camilla, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, respectively carrying out 297, 233 and 219 engagements.

Prince William and the Duke of Gloucester, the late Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, were tied in sixth place with 172 engagements each.

The Princess of Wales came in seventh place behind the 79-year-old royal with 128. This is an increase from 2022, when she only carried out 90 engagements.

She has been slammed on social media for a “lack of work ethic”, carrying out only six more engagements than the Duchess of Gloucester.

One person posted on X (formerly Twitter): “128 engagements from the Princess of Wales. What. A. Joke. She should be ashamed. 172 from William is also unacceptable. Should expect at least 250 from the heir to the throne. These are their prime years, they’re wasting them.”

Another wrote: “Yikes! The heirs being that low is not good. Both of them need to pick it up next year. It’s getting embarrassing.”

A user agreed, saying: “I don’t understand how there are people who make excuses for her lack of engagements.”

Another wrote: “Now that all of the children are in school, they should be getting four to six engagements in a week, each.

“Even more if you consider how many times multiple engagements are done in a day (see Princess Anne and The King’s numbers).”

The Telegraph said that the majority of day-to-day engagements are now carried out by those “well into or approaching retirement age”, with Edward and Sophie 58 and 59 respectively.

The paper said William and Kate have deliberately chosen to focus on fewer patronages, hoping to use their power to make a bigger difference.

Questions have been raised over who will pick up daily visits around the country in the “slimmed-down monarchy” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex departed and the children of the Princess Royal, Duke of York and Duke of Edinburgh not working members.
