Princess Kate's photo sparks fresh chaos as news title announces review of all Palace pics

The global news organisation CNN has announced it will conduct a review of all images issued by Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family, following the furore surrounding Princess Kate’s edited photo.

On Mother’s Day a new image of Kate and her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis was released to celebrate the occasion.

The picture initially quelled speculation surrounding the health of the Princess of Wales, as she has not been seen in public since undergoing abdominal surgery in January, with Kensington Palace making it clear she would not be back at work until after Easter.

However on Sunday evening several top international picture agencies said they were killing the image over concerns that it had been doctored.

Several errors were then picked up on in the picture, including Charlotte’s sleeve not aligning properly, her hair being cut off and Kate’s zip being too far to one side.

The backlash over the image prompted a response from Kate, who admitted: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

Now to add to the drama, American news outlet CNN has said they will be reviewing all other pictures released by the Firm over concerns they may have been edited.

A statement on their site said: “CNN is now reviewing all handout photos previously provided by Kensington Palace.”

Metadata of Kate’s photo, which was supposedly taken by Prince William, proved that Photoshop had been used to tweak it on Friday and Saturday before it was posted on Sunday.

Kensington Palace has so far not provided a comment on the editing scandal, but said in a previous statement at the end of February that Kate was continuing to do well in her recovery.

In an opinion piece for CNN Rosa Prince wrote: “The lack of detail from the Palace is symptomatic of an institution which has struggled to find a balance between protecting the royals’ privacy, and providing the transparency demanded by a modern democracy.”

A Royal Family expert has come to Kate’s defence over the editing error, as Charles Rae said on GB News: “I am appalled at the amount of nonsense that’s spoken about this photograph today. I think this is a beautiful photograph.

“It’s a great photograph. It was meant to be a Mother’s Day photograph. And she took the opportunity to say thanks very much.

“Honestly, the stuff that I’ve been watching and listening to on Twitter, it’s driving me round the bend. People are complaining about the foliage in the background saying it can’t be right because the foliage is wrong.

“How many gardening experts are out there that are complaining about this photograph? I mean, leave the girl alone. She’s just doing the best she can.”
