Princess Kate’s photo editing blunder is a ‘storm in teacup’, blasts Anne Widdecombe

The Princess of Wales’s admission that she doctored a photograph of herself with her children is nothing more than a “storm in teacup”, ex-Government minister Ann Widdecombe has said.

And while acknowledging her “exasperation”, the former Tory MP for Maidstone, more recently a Brexit Party MEP, urged the public to focus on the fact that the Princess appears be recovering from her abdominal surgery in January.

Ms Widdecombe, writing for the Daily Express, said: “In the war of Charlotte’s sleeve I have veered between exasperation at Kate’s carelessness and total sympathy with Dickie Arbiter, the late Queen’s press spokesman, who calls the whole controversy ‘a storm in a teacup’.”

She continued: “The crucial question and the only one that matters is: was that picture of a glowing, healthy Kate taken on the day claimed and not doctored? So far nobody has suggested any faking as far as that is concerned.

“So let us forget all the trivia, congratulate the princess on her continuing recovery and move on.”

The latest photo, featuring Kate, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, was taken by Prince William, Kensington Palace said.

In an accompanying social media message on Mothering Sunday, Kate said thanked the public for their “kind wishes and continued support”.

But questions were raised other the authenticity of the image, with several agencies pulling the photo over concerns of digital manipulation.

Kate later issued an apology and explained: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”
