Princess Kate 'wasn't allowed to tell mum Carole' when she gave birth to Prince George

Princess Kate couldn’t tell her own mum about Prince George’s birth due to a strict royal rule. When Kate was expecting her first child with Prince William, everyone was excitedly waiting for the news of the royal baby’s safe arrival.

Kate suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum – a very severe form of morning sickness during all three of her pregnancies and she even had to be hospitalised because of it.

However, when Prince George was born, it is said that Kate wasn’t allowed to tell her mother Carole, whom she is very close to, about his birth. This was because of a stern royal protocol that required her to wait before sharing the news that her first child and future king had been born.

According to OK Magazine, there was a royal rule that stated one person had to be informed about George’s birth before anyone else: the late Queen Elizabeth.

“This is because of a royal protocol that says no one can know about the birth of a future monarch until the current monarch has been told,” the report said. This would have meant that Kate also couldn’t tell her father Michael or her siblings Pippa and James, despite how close they are as a family.

The report explained that it was William who informed his grandmother about the birth of the future king. Once he had done this, the couple was then free to share the news with the rest of their family and friends.

After a night in the hospital with her newborn, 31-year-old Kate appeared for a press event where she introduced her first child and future King to the public.

In 2020, Kate shared her feelings about posing for the photographers on the Happy Baby Happy Mum podcast. She admitted it was “slightly terrifying, I’m not going to lie.”

She also said that the experience was filled with “mixed emotions”.

She explained: “Everyone had been so supportive and both William and I were really conscious that this was something that everyone was excited about and, you know, we’re hugely grateful for the support that the public had shown us, and actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public, I felt was really important.

“But equally it was coupled with a newborn baby, and inexperienced parents, and the uncertainty of what that held, so there were all sorts of mixed emotions.”
