Princess Kate was asked to change her name to avoid clash with two senior royals

The Princess of Wales was previously asked to change her name to avoid clashing with two other senior royals.

Although she is often known publicly as ‘Kate’, the royal is still referred to as ‘Catherine’ by many members of the Royal Family – including her husband, Prince William.

As reported by OK!, Kate was asked to change her name as it appeared to clash with Charles and Camilla – with their names both beginning with the letter ‘C’.

According to Prince Harry, who spoke of his sister-in-law’s name in his bombshell memoir Spare, the King and Queen wanted Kate to spell ‘Catherine’ with the letter ‘K’ instead of a ‘C’.

Writing in Spare, Harry wrote: “There were already two royal cyphers with a C and a crown above: Charles and Camilla. It would be too confusing to have another. Make it Katherine with a K, they suggested.

“I wondered now what came of that suggestion.”

Recalling the moment he and William learned of the ask, Harry added in his memoir: “I turned to Willy, gave him a look that said ‘You listening to this? ‘ His face was blank.”

Despite the ask, it is noted that the request wasn’t met and that Kate shares a close bond with both her father-in-law and his wife.

The Princess of Wales revealed that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy last month, shared in an emotional address to the public.

The mother-of-three had previously undergone planned abdominal surgery back in January. Although her condition was not thought to be cancerous at the time, cancer was found to be present during post-operative tests.

Keeping a low profile since her diagnosis, Princess Kate was last pictured during the annual festive celebrations with the family on Christmas Day – just a few weeks before her surgery at The London Clinic in Marylebone.

Kate’s diagnosis came just a few weeks after the King shared his own cancer diagnosis back in February.

Speaking earlier this year, one expert shared how Kate’s bond with the King has strengthened since their diagnoses.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith tells PEOPLE: “He has always had a very good bond with her. I don’t think it is presumptuous to say that she is like the daughter he never had.

“He shares with [Prince] William an impulse to protect her. They are in this together, Kate and the King.”

Following news of her diagnosis, Buckingham Palace said that the King was “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did”.
