Prince William and Prince Harry, both alumni of the elite all-boys secondary school Eton, followed in the footsteps of their grandfather John, the eighth Earl Spencer, and uncle Charles Spencer. However, according to Royal expert Charlotte Griffiths, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are “thinking outside the box” for Prince George’s education.
As a future king, George’s upbringing is unlike any other 11 year old’s. His mother, Princess Kate, is keen to ensure that he has a well-rounded life experience before assuming his Royal duties. She has enrolled her eldest son at Marlborough College, where she herself spent many happy years. It is believed that George’s siblings, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, will also attend the £59,000-a-year Wiltshire school when the time comes.
This is because Marlborough, unlike Eton, is a co-educational institution. Gordonstoun, the austere Scottish boarding school that Prince Charles attended – and detested – in the early sixties was an all-boys establishment at the time too.
Speaking on Channel 5’s How To Make a Monarch, Charlotte revealed that Kate “absolutely loved Marlborough”, and wants her children to have fond memories of their school days as well.
According to Charlotte, “She’s really keen for her children to have a similar experience, and for them to be happy above all else,” which is an unconventional approach.
The Princess of Wales didn’t solely rely on her personal experience; she also enlisted the help of experts to identify the perfect school for building a resilient and well-adjusted future monarch.
Despite being destined for a life of distinction, Prince George’s parents are determined to provide him and his siblings with a relatively “normal” childhood.
Attending Marlborough College, which boasts an impressive alumni list featuring renowned explorers, writers, and models, is a crucial part of this endeavour.
