Princess Kate set to miss out on special family occasion this week

The Princess of Wales has finally returned to her home in Windsor after nearly two weeks in hospital in London following her successful abdominal surgery.

Princess Kate is said to stay home and recover fully and will not resumer her royal duties until after Easter.

But there is a very special event taking place this week that Prince William’s wife is likely going to miss.

Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton will celebrate her 69th birthday on Wednesday 31 January and whilst it is unknown whether she will make a special visit to see her daughter on the day, it is highly unlikely the princess will be able to attend any gatherings or parties.

Earlier today, Kensington Palace announced Princess Kate had been discharged from hospital and returned to Adelaide Cottage.

A statement read: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.

“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided. The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”

Prince William is said to have cleared his diary until his wife has fully settled at home, but he was pictured visiting her at the London Clinic, where she was admitted when she was recuperating.

Members of the Middleton family are said to have visited too.

Last year, Carole spoke about her birthday plans in a newsletter for Party Pieces – her family-run business.

She said: “Is it just me or has January flown by? Which means it is nearly my birthday. I often go away on holiday for my birthday, but this year I am bringing the sunshine to me by throwing a party.”

In 2021, during lockdown, Kate’s mum also revealed her birthday plans saying: “If, like me, your birthday falls during the cold, dark days of winter, your loved ones can still make the day full of surprises.

“Our customers have been transforming their surroundings with our sparkly backdrops and bright balloons for small ‘at-home’ parties for their household.

“It may not be how we imagined we would be celebrating, but a little effort can still lift the spirits and bring some joy. This year it’s down to my husband to help me mark my day – no pressure!”
