Princess Kate spent time comforting patients today as she visited the very same hospital where she received cancer treatment last year.
The Princess of Wales, 43, made a solo visit on Tuesday to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea to thank staff who had helped her during her cancer battle last year.
The future Queen, who is now patron of the hospital along with her husband Prince William, also wanted to spend time talking to patients about their own experiences, including 57-year-old Rebecca Mendelhson, who is on trial for secondary cancer – breast and liver.
The princess also spoke to an emotional Tina Adumou, who has a 19-year-old daughter in ICU.
Kate looked visibly moved hearing her story and was quick to put her arm around her to provide comfort.
The princess could be heard saying: “I’m sorry. I wish there was more I could do to help.
“I wanted to come and show my support for the amazing work that’s going on here and for those who are going through treatment and having such a hard time.”
She then added: “Are you okay? Yes?. There is light at the end of that tunnel. It’s very nice to meet you. Best of luck. You are in the best of hands.”
Elsewhere on the visit, Kate also shared some details about her own experiences with patients, including on how she was told to bring warm clothes during treatment as a result of the side-effects.
The princess also said she recognised the beeping noises from machines and really wanted to see some sunlight when she was undergoing treatment.
Kensington Palace only confirmed today that the hospital was where Kate herself was treated last year.
It is believed she had previously entered the hospital through side doors rather than the main entrance to enable her the privacy she needed during this time,
The princess finished her chemotherapy in September and has been continuing to recover at home in Windsor while undertaking a gradual return to royal duty.
