Princess Kate latest: Shock cancer diagnosis as she says 'I'm getting stronger every day'

It has been announced today that Princess Kate has been diagnosed with cancer, following abdominal surgery in January this year. Following the surgery, initial tests did not find any cancer present, however, post-operative tests conducted in February revealed that cancer had been present.

Kate is now undergoing preventative chemotherapy to ensure the cancer does not return, and is now on the path to recovery. In a statement released by the Palace, Kate said she was “in good spirits” and focused on her recovery.

She said: “I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery. It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.”

She added that her husband Prince William has been “a great source of comfort and reassurance” to her throughout, and they have taken time to “process and manage this privately” for the sake of their children.

She said: “Most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

The Princess ended the statement sending her sympathies to all those whose lives have been affected by cancer, saying: “For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
