Princess Diana would be 'heartbroken' after raising Prince Harry to be William's 'wingman'

Prince Harry always knew he would be Prince William’s “wingman” and his mother, Princess Diana, would be “heartbroken” over her younger son deserting that post, the late Princess of Wales’s former butler has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex is currently not on speaking terms with the Prince of Wales and has been estranged from the Royal Family since his departure in 2020 with Meghan Markle for a life, free of duty, across the pond.

Paul Burrel, who worked with Diana up until her death, claimed the princess would not be happy with Harry’s actions. He added that Harry was raised with the perception that he was always going to be William’s “wingman” and that’s what he was going to do, until he met Meghan.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, the former royal butler said: “I saw first-hand Diana raise William and Harry and it was always Harry’s duty and his job to be a wingman for his brother.

“He always knew that William would be king and Harry would be second in charge, but something happened, and that was Meghan.”

He accused the duchess of turning Harry’s world “upside down” saying Diana would not be happy with that. He said: “She changed his world and turned it upside down. Diana would not be happy with the way he has deserted his post.

“He has not only deserted his post, he has deserted his family and his country.”

Burrell added that Diana knew the “price to pay for an extremely privileged life is public service” and claimed the Duke hasn’t paid that price.

He said: “If she was still alive, none of this would be happening because she would still have her hands on the reins and she would still be steering her children.

“She would be proud of William but she would have a broken heart over Harry because she would be torn over the love for her son and the desertion of his duty.”
