Princess Charlotte revealed an unpopular animal was among her favourites in a sweet interview with beloved environmentalist Sir David Attenborough.
The Princess was joined by her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis as they interviewed Sir David via video in August 2020.
Each of the young royals asked a question, and the broadcaster appeared delighted by their enthusiasm for the natural world.
When Princess Charlotte’s turn came, the third in line to the British throne asked: “Hello, David Attenborough! I like spiders, do you like spiders too?”
Sir David replied: “I love spiders, I’m so glad you like them! I think they’re wonderful things. Why is it that people are so frightened of them?”
The documentarian answered his own question, reflecting that it might be because arachnids have eight legs and run in all directions, but told her they were clever creatures.
He then asked the young royal whether she had ever watched one spin a web, a process he described as “extraordinary”.
“How does it make this sort of circular web like that, attached to trees on either side or bits of vegetation?” he asked.
“How do they do it? Try and watch how they do it. It’s marvellous!”
The naturalist outlined ways in which the public can help preserve wildlife and protect animals from extinction.
During the sweet interview, Sir David also told the youngest of the Waleses’ children, Prince Louis, that his favourite animals were monkeys.
Sir David has become a leading campaigner on climate change, and has offered stark messages about the future of the planet in his nature programmes.
For example at the end of the series Frozen Planet II in 2022, which lays bare the impact of global warming, Sir David urged the watching millions around the world: “If we can do something about it, then do it. We can do it. We must do it.”
