Princess Beatrice gives update on mum Sarah Ferguson's health after cancer scare

Princess Beatrice has said her mum Sarah Ferguson is “doing really well” and has been given the “all clear” having been hit with two cancer diagnoses over the past year.

The Duchess of York, affectionately known as Fergie, revealed last summer that she had undergone a mastectomy after breast cancer was detected during a routine check-up.

Then during another test in the winter she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a blow coming just a few months after her breast cancer news.

Speaking live from the top of the Empire State Building on This Morning, Beatrice told host Josie Gibson when asked how Fergie was doing: “She’s doing really well thank you Josie, she’s had a bumpy health scare last year but all clear now, and at 64 she’s thriving, she’s been through so much, but I think now she’s really coming into her own.

“I think we’re just reminded when any parent or individual has a health scenario, just really get the check’s that you need to get and as early as you possibly can.

“Both my sister and I are so proud of her for taking those steps to get those checks, and we’ve modelled our health considerations on that.

“We’re really lucky in the UK to make sure that we can get those checks and hopefully we can be there to support each other when anyone goes through a health scare.”

Host Craig Doyle then spoke about what a difficult year it had been for the Royal Family health wise, to which Beatrice replied: “There’s nothing more important than family.”

Royal fans on X were quick to praise Beatrice after her segment aired, with one commenting: “#thismorning how lovely is princess Beatrice the young royal family (sic) are really taking the lead now.”

Another wrote: “HRH Princess Beatrice was superb this morning. Sounded very genuine and clear messaging. Hopefully will see more of her. Well done Princess Beatrice.”

A third pointed out: “To be fair how well did Princess Beatrice come across in this interview with Craig and Josie. #ThisMorning.”

Fergie’s close relationship with her daughters Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will no doubt have been a great comfort to her as she dealt with her health problems.

The Duchess told HELLO!: “They [Beatrice and Eugenie] support me through thick and thin, not least my recent illness.

“We call each other ‘The Tripod’ because we prop each other up, come what may.”

Following her melanoma diagnosis, Fergie wrote on her Instagram: “I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, my second cancer diagnosis within a year after I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

“It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was.

“Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.”
