Princess Beatrice is said to be extremely upset about being caught up in the drama surrounding her father, Prince Andrew, after Netflix dropped its latest royal drama Scoop last week.
The film, starring Rufus Sewell as the disgraced Duke of York and Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, dramatises events surrounding the Newsnight interview of November 2019, with Beatrice herself being played by Charity Wakefield.
Sources told OK! magazine that Beatrice feels “unfairly targeted” after her involvement in discussions surrounding the interview were portrayed in the film.
She is also dreading the upcoming release of the Amazon MGM Studios series, A Very Royal Scandal, based on Emily Maitlis’ perspective.
The source said: “Bea is dreading the release of Emily’s version of events because she thinks she will feature more heavily in it.
“She believes it will stir everything up for no reason and nobody will let her live it down. To say she is upset is an understatement – she’s devastated.”
A Very Royal Scandal is a three-part series set to air on Amazon Prime later this year, with Ruth Wilson playing Emily Maitlis and the BBC journalist herself as an executive producer.
Prince Andrew will be portrayed by Michael Sheen, who was stripped of his military titles and patronages and forced to step down as a working royal following the fallout from the interview and his connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
The source added: “Bea feels unfairly targeted. She’s so upset by all of this. She adores her father but didn’t want to be dragged into this so publicly.
“Bea feels like this has set her back a few steps just as everything was going right for her within the Royal Family.”
While Beatrice and her younger sister Princess Eugenie have never been working members of the Royal Family, there has been talk of them stepping up with King Charles and Princess Kate out of action due to ill health.
Beatrice stood in for Kate during Student Mental Health Week earlier this year, however there are now fears that her association with Andrew could taint her reputation.
