Prince William said he promised his daughter Princess Charlotte that he would wear the adorable Papa bracelet she made him during his four-day trip to Cape Town.
The nine-year-old made the bracelet for her father before he headed out to South Africa, and the Prince of Wales has been proudly wearing the accessory on his engagements.
Asked about the significance of the bracelet, William said it was a “relic” from a Taylor Swift concert they attended in the summer.
“This is a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for. She gave it to me when I came away. So I promised to wear it and try not to lose while I was out here.”
William’s visit to Cape Town for the Earthshot Prize marks his first major overseas trip of the year, as he’s only left the UK for short trips such as the 80th D-Day commerations in France and to watch England in the EUROs.
This is because it’s been a difficult year for the Prince, with his wife and father being diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year.
However, the Princess of Wales revealed in September that she has completed her course of chemotherapy and has started to slowly ease herself back into royal duties.
King Charles meanwhile has just returned from a successful tour to Australia and Samoa and royal sources said the long-haul trip had been “the perfect tonic”.
William was asked after his wife today, and he revealed that she is “doing very well”.
He told the BBC: “She’s doing really well thanks. And I hopefully she is watching tonight. Cheering me on.
“She’s been she’s been amazing this whole this whole year. I know she will be really keen to see tonight be a success.”
Tonight, William will attend the 2024 Earthshot Prize at a glitzy ceremony in Cape Town.
Over 2,000 guests will attend the event, held at an impressive eco-dome, which will see stars such as Heidi Klum walk its iconic green carpet alongside the show’s hosts – Emmy award winning actor Billy Porter and TV presenter Bonang Matheb.
