Prince William’s key role despite not being in Princess Kate’s first photo post surgery

Despite not making an appearance in the Royal Family photo which has gone viral online, Prince William still had a very important role to play in the iconic image.

This Mother’s Day, Princess Kate thanked the public for their “kind wishes” and “continued support” over the past two months, following her abdominal surgery earlier in the year.

On social media, the Prince and Princess of Wales released an image showing the doting mother, Princess Kate, sitting in a chair smiling, with her arms clinching the waists of Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Her eldest son, Prince George, 10, was standing behind her chair, with his arms wrapped around Princess Kate’s neck. Princess Kate opted for a relaxed look, as fans praised the Princess for breaking her silence since her operation.

Prince William played a key role in the happy family portrait, by taking the photo himself.

Princess Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and siblings, Pippa Matthews and James Middleton, are expected to be hands-on in helping Kate recover and supporting Prince William.

Kate is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter, and Prince William, 41, temporarily stepped back from his royal role to look after his family.

Royal commentators have praised Prince William’s care in “looking after” his family during these tough times.

It has been a difficult start to 2024 for William, as his wife Princess Kate has undergone major abdominal surgery and is continuing to recover at home, while King Charles has been fighting cancer.

With the King taking a back seat many have speculated that William may be stepping up his royal responsibilities, but royal expert Richard Kay said that instead “William is determined that family life is his number one priority”.
