Prince William’s friend has confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales were not asked to “send anyone” to the “peace talk” between Prince Harry and King Charles’ aides. It was revealed on Sunday that within the last week, Meredith Maines, Harry and Meghan’s Chief Communications Officer, and the King’s Communications Secretary Tobyn Andreae, had met up for an informal meeting, alongside Liam Maguire, who runs the Sussexes’ UK public relations team.
Although the meeting was intended to be private, the trio were photographed chatting on a terrace overlooking a public park. It is not known what was being discussed.
However, since the photograph of the aides was taken, it was clear that none of Prince William and Princess Kate’s staff members were present at the meeting, which was revealed by The Mail on Sunday.
While some may believe this was a choice made by Prince William, who is believed to have not been on talking terms with his estranged brother Prince Harry for some time, a friend of the heir to the throne has now suggested that the couple were not even aware of the meeting which took place at the London private members’ club Royal Over-Seas League.
The couple’s friend told Richard Eden for The Daily Mail: “It’s no coincidence that William and Catherine did not have a representative at the Royal Over-Seas League.
“They were not asked to send anyone and will be treating the talks with extreme caution. The fact that it ended up in the newspapers tells you all you need to know.”
It is believed Prince William has not spoken to Harry properly since the release of Harry’s memoir Spare in 2023 – three years after Harry quit royal life with Meghan Markle.
