Prince William's 'dead' jokes mocked by Chris Evans as he urges royal to 'do homework'

Virgin Radio Breakfast Show host Chris Evans couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Prince William on his show today, following the latter’s return to royal duties on Wednesday. Alongside actor Tom Cruise, William attended London Air Ambulance Service’s gala, to help raise funds for London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s Up Against Time appeal.

William, who is a former air ambulance pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance, met crew members, former patients and supporters during the event before delivering the speech on the stage. Addressing the crowd, he made a joke about Mission Impossible star Tom potentially borrowing the helicopters for the next movie.

He added: “We have all seen on our screens that, how can I put it, you seem to have a different take on normal wear and tear to the rest of us,” which prompted the audience to laugh. After playing the clip on his show today, Chris and his co-star couldn’t help but take a swipe at how the Prince Of Wales delivered the gags.

After laughing about the moment, he said: “It sounds like it’s the first time Prince William has seem them jokes on the piece of paper in front of him. Seriously, if you’re stepping forward for your dad [King Charles], you’ve got to do a bit of homework pal. You’ve got to learn your lines mate.”

Chris’ co-star chimed in saying he thought it was “a good line” from the royal, to which Chris agreed but added: “Whoever wrote it did the heavy lifting, all you had to do was sprinkle your icing.”

“A little bit of it in the delivery,” his co-star chimed in, which prompted the presenter to question: “A little bit?”

Chris didn’t stop there with his thoughts as went on to say that while the cause of the evening was great, he wanted more enthusiasm from the royal.

“It’s all great, it’s just those dead jokes, come on, sort your life out. They were good gags,” he continued.

Prince William returned to work in support the King on Wednesday when he hosted a Windsor Castle investiture ceremony.

Following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, he is expected to to take on more public duties while his father focuses on treatment.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that doctors discovered the monarch had cancer after he underwent treatment for benign prostate enlargement.

The type of cancer he has is currently unknown, but a spokesperson for Charles has shut down claims it’s prostate cancer.

At the event, William thanked everyone for their “kind messages” regarding his loved ones’ health ordeals.

He shared: “I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days.

“It means a great deal to us all. It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather medical focus.”

He went on to joke that he came to the air ambulance function to “get away from it all”.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show airs weekdays on Virgin Radio from 6.30am.
