Prince William and Princess Kate stepped out in their Ascot-best Friday at the Royal Ascot horse racing meeting, donning big smiles and popping colors for the event.
Princess Kate looked stunning in a bright headpiece and red dress designed by Alexander McQueen, according to People. Kate has worn the designer for special occasions in the past, including her 2011 wedding to Prince William. She also wore Alexander McQueen for King Charles III’s coronation in May, during which she shared a matching moment with her daughter.
Prince William opted for a top hat and suit paired with a blue shirt and a purple tie.
The annual summertime Royal Ascot event, which began Tuesday and ends Saturday, draws British royals and thousands of others dressed to the nines for a glamorous horse race. The tradition dates back to 1711, when Queen Anne founded Ascot Racecourse in southern England.
The outfits are fancy, but the hats are the main fashion attraction – extravagant, elaborate and sometimes gravity-defying. This year’s standouts included a giant sunflower, several feathered numbers, and an “Alice in Wonderland”-themed hat with playing cards, a clock and a ribbon that reads “We’re all mad here.”
Typically, around 300,000 visitors attend the Royal Ascot over its five day period.
The royal couple shared a laugh at Royal Ascot, with Kate showing a matching red clutch as part of her monochromatic look.
The duo arrived in a horse-drawn carriage for the event.
While arriving in a carriage, the couple smiled for cameras.
Kate and William stood together during the event and shared a chat as the horse race meeting went on.
