Prince William is “not needed to be King Charles’s deputy” as the”workaholic” monarch carries on, a royal expert has claimed.
As King Charles III takes time away from public facing duties due to his recent cancer diagnosis, his eldest son – and heir to the throne – is on hand to help his father out.
But William is, perhaps unexpectedly, not needed to deputise for his father’s role just yet. It comes as King Charles broke his silence for the first time since his cancer diagnosis – with a public apology to the people of Grenada after he was unable to be with the people of the Caribbean island on the 50th anniversary of its independence.
According to The Telegraph, a palace insider said that William will take on “some duties” but it will be “a few selected engagements rather than a whole tranche”.
With blessing from the King, William is able to take time to make sure his wife, the Princess of Wales is settled at their home in Winsdor.
The Princess of Wales was discharged from The London Clinic on January 29 after undergoing planned abdominal surgery earlier that month. In a statement released on January 17, Kensington Palace stated that she would remain in hospital for up to a fortnight.
Due to Princess Kate’s hospitalisation, Prince William was forced to step up and care for the couple’s three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five – alone.
William is said to have been in “constant communication” with his father, although is not known to have seen him since his cancer diagnosis.
Although he has stepped away from public facing duties, the monarch will still take on stately duties.
According to The Telegraph, William’s support to his father is “given privately” and, it it said, with “nothing he needs to pick up for the King in the immediate future”.
As the first future King able to do so, William is able to give his sole attention to his wife and children.
A source has claimed that it was only “anticipated” that William would pick up duties once Princess Kate was “settled” at home. It was later confirmed that William’s royal duties would resume on today, February 7.
William arrived in Windsor Castle earlier today, where he presented honours to more than 50 recipients at an investiture.
Taking to social media, Prince William has been praised by proud royal watchers.
Commenting on today’s duties, one royal enthusiast wrote on X: “Prince William, every inch our future King.”
Another commented Prince William had a “keep calm and carry on” attitude at the ceremony.
