Prince William made a hilarious quip about his aunt the Duchess of Edinburgh as they stepped out on a rare joint royal engagement together last Friday. The Prince of Wales, 42, who is known as the Duke of Cornwall when in the region, arrived at the Royal Cornwall Show with Sophie to celebrate Cornish heritage through agriculture, food, and entertainment.
As well as meeting members of the public at the show, William and his much-loved aunt also visited the stalls and tasted some local produce, including cider and gin. It was at a gin stall that the pair both tried a shot of the spirit, with William making a joke at his aunt’s expense.
After taking a small taste of gin, William and Sophie spoke to each other before talking to the stall holders about the flavouring.
Sophie, 60, then raised the small shot back up to her mouth for another sip, resulting in William making a hilarious quip.
The future King pointed at his aunt and jokingly said: “You’re not allowed to finish it.”
Turning to the stall holders, he said good-naturedly: “You’ve got to watch her.”
This was met with a chuckle by Sophie, showing the sweet family bond between them as they both then took another sip.
They were also seen trying Rattler cider together, with William joking that everyone remembers where they were when they had their first taste of the drink.
The joint engagement on Friday delighted royal fans, with many complimenting the sweet bond between William and Sophie.
One fan wrote on X: “It’s always a pure joy to see how Prince William and Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh enjoy the event together. I can imagine how fun and laid-back they are when family gets together on many occasions.”
