Prince William is still ‘processing the news of his father having cancer’

Prince William is heir to the throne and the future head of state, but he’s also a human being, and he is not immune to worry.

Buckingham Palace announced King Charles’ cancer diagnosis a week ago today. It seems much longer, because of the nature of the illness and so much has happened since then, but really, it’s still very new and very early in his treatment, which he has just begun at Sandringham House.

Charles is optimistic about the prognosis, which may help in managing concerns, but at the same time, William “is processing the news of his father having cancer as a human being,” says a source close to the family, reports The Daily Beast.

Charles has expressed concern about William taking on too much and being overwhelmed, and as a result, he’s advised his eldest son to to put family first — Princess Kate and their three children — but Charles is his family, too. And, his king.

So, if we’ve done the math correctly, putting family first would include Charles.

It sounds like William will heed his father’s advice and spend time with his family, while handling his royal responsibilities, locally, and not traveling too far, and, being mindful of his father and his father’s well-being. So, in other words, “Answer C: All of the Above.”

But, putting family first doesn’t mean he will abandon his duties. It sounds William is just like his father, and grandmother, and takes his work seriously.

“In some royal circles, however, there is a slight sense of bewilderment at William’s determination to so fiercely protect his boundaries when it comes to his diary,” says a source to The Daily Beast.
