Prince Harry's Netflix project offers Duke chance to 'mend fences' with King Charles

She noted the Duke is unlikely to be able to rely on the King or even his brother Prince William for direct comments due to their frosty relationship.

But Bedell Smith said using historic footage and family videos of matches played together could not only highlight Harry’s connection to the sport but to his family as well.

She continued: “Still, there is plenty of film footage available in the public domain to offer a comprehensive picture of the sport, even if Harry’s father and brother would be unavailable to share their reminiscences.

“Revisiting Prince Charles’s years as a polo player could also summon memories of his broken marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales, which might be too painful for Harry to explore.

“Yet offering perspective on Prince Philip and Prince Charles at the very least could be an opportunity for Harry to mend fences, especially with his father.”

While speculation about Harry’s relationship with William has long suggested the brothers are not close to burying the hatchet, the King is believed to be eager to reconcile with his youngest son.

Earlier this month, His Majesty was tipped to issue an invite to the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle to spend part of the summer holidays at his Scottish retreat in Balmoral.

Sources close to the Palace have claimed Charles would like to spend time not only with Harry but also his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Archie moved to the US with his parents in 2020 when they stepped down from their roles and Lilibet was born in California the following year.

They briefly returned to the UK with Harry and Meghan in June 2022 for the celebrations of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee but have not seen their grandfather in person since.
