Prince Harry was previously quizzed on whether he would ever return as a working royal, with him offering a very telling response.
Around one year ago, Harry was interviewed by Good Morning America and discussed whether he could ever see himself making a return to royal life. The interview took place last January, when Harry was promoting his tell-all memoir Spare.
King Charles is currently taking some time away from public duties due to undergoing cancer treatment, and with the Princess of Wales also unable to carry out engagements, the monarch has been left with minimal key players to uphold royal duties.
The lack of working royals means that many have been left wondering whether Harry, who now lives in the US, could step up to help his father and family out.
In an interview with GMA last year, Harry offered a very blunt response when asked if he and his wife Meghan Markle could ever return to duty. Speaking to host Michael Strahan, he said: “No, I don’t think it is ever going to be possible.”
Expanding on his 11-word response, Harry added: “Even if there is an agreement, or an agreement between me and my family, there is that third party that is going to do everything stopping us going back, but making it unsurvivable.”
Reports have previously suggested that Harry is happy to step into a temporary role to fill in as his father undergoes cancer treatment. Buckingham Palace have, however, denied that Harry has stated that he would be willing to step up.
Further reports have claimed that Harry would not be allowed to take on a temporary role, especially under the “clear” agreement posed when the Sussexes made the decision to step down from duties in 2020.
A source told the Telegraph: “Those terms were quite clear, and the King’s illness hasn’t altered that.” Another source told the publication that Harry taking on a temporary role within the monarchy was deemed “not appropriate” and that is this still “remains the case”.
Harry and Meghan now reside in California with their two children and undertook their final engagement as working royals in March 2020.
