Prince Harry won’t go 'that final step' and ‘give up everything’ for US citizenship

Prince Harry may opt for a green card, but he won’t go the US citizenship route, because it would come at a huge cost, claims one royal expert.

Daily Express US spoke with Saad Salman, a member of the royal press corp and founder of The Royal Watcher, who said: “I think, for the time being, Harry wants to legally be allowed to live and work in the US, so he might pursue the green card, but not fully go for the citizenship.”

He added: “I have mixed feelings about this because he does have that British heritage, if he does become a US citizen, he would have to renounce all of his titles and privileges and things, which, he and and Meghan are very keen to not do that.”

According to Mr Salman, retaining the privileges that come with being a royal “would be very important for them in the long run.”

“For them to go that final step, giving up everything, I don’t think that is going to happen any time soon,” he said.

Harry’s US visa application is currently under review with a US judge looking over the form in chambers, as to how Harry answered questions regarding former drug use.

It’s yet to be decided whether or not he will make the answers known to the public, but immigraton laywer Gita Gorji is guessing, “no,” as it would set a bad precedent and it “could open up the Department of Homeland Security to future requests for less public figures.”

In the meantime, Harry is believed to have a diplomatic passport and can travel back and forth to the UK as long as the passport is valid.
