Prince Harry vows King Charles's cancer will have 'unifying effect' in bombshell interview

Prince Harry has spoken out on King Charles’s cancer diagnosis in a bombshell TV interview that is unlikely to welcomed by the Royal Family.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Prince Harry said: “Look I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him I’m grateful for that.”

When asked if an illness in the family could have a “reunifying effect” Prince Harry responded: “Yeah, I’m sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.”

Last Monday, Buckingham Palace announced King Charles had been diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer.

Prince Harry rushed to the UK to visit his father, but after a short 45-minute meeting with the King, the Duke left within 24 hours.

Despite postponing public-facing duties, the King is still performing duties such as reading his daily red boxes of state papers and holding his weekly meeting with Rishi Sunak over the phone.

In the meantime, Queen Camila has been holding up the fort with her royal diary of engagements.

Last week, she said her husband was doing “extremely well under the circumstances” and added the King had been “very touched” by all the messages of support he has received from the public.

On Saturday the King sent his heartfelt thanks for the messages of support and said he was pleased to hear his experience is inspiring others up and down the country to get themselves checked.

He said: “I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.

“As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.

“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world.

“My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”
