Prince Harry takes on Britney Spears and Dragon's Den Star as he's up for major award

Prince Harry is up against the likes of Britney Spears and Dragon’s Den star Steven Bartlett in The British Book Awards next week.

Harry’s book Spare, which was released in January 2023, is in the running to win awards for both ‘Book of the Year – Audiobook Non-Fiction’ and ‘Book of the Year – Non-Fiction: Narrative’.

Like Harry, Britney’s book ‘The Woman in Me’ and Steven’s ‘The Diary of a CEO’ are also up for ‘Non-Fiction: Narrative’.

According to thebookseller.com, Harry’s book sold more than 700,000 copies through the TCM.

The memoir, which is available through hardback, e-book, and audiobook, was also the fastest-selling non-fiction hardback since records began and finished 2023 as the biggest-selling book of the year.

Other nominees for ‘Non-Fiction: Narrative’ include Philippa Gregory’s ‘Normal Women’, Rory Stewart’s ‘Politics on the Edge’ and Kevin Sinfield’s ‘The EXtra Mile’.

‘The Diary of a CEO’ is also in the running for the award for ‘Audiobook Non-Fiction’, as well as Fern Brady’s ‘Strong Female Character’, David Mitchell’s ‘Unruly’, Patrick Stewart’s ‘Making it So’ and Alan Partridge’s ‘Alan Patridge: Big Beacon’.

The award ceremony is set to take place on Monday, May 13 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London – but will also be available to watch online.

The livesteam will be available to watch online from 6pm on May 13.

Harry first announced his memoir in July 2021, 18 months before it was released worldwide.

According to Penguin Random House, the chosen publisher for Spare, Harry is described as “a husband, father, humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist.”

Describing Spare, Penguin writes: “For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty.

“A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

Spare earned the title of 2023’s best-seller in the UK and beat both Richard Osman and the Guinness Book of World Records that year.

Following its release on January 10, 2023, Spare sent shockwaves throughout The Firm as the former working royal launched unprecedented attacks on members of the Royal Family – including his brother, Prince William, and stepmother, Queen Camilla.

In one segment of Spare, Harry claimed that he and William begged King Charles not to marry Queen Camilla, whom he thought of as a “wicked stepmother” at the time.

Harry, who now lives in the US with wife Meghan Markle and their two children, also accused Camilla of having a “long-term strategy, a campaign directed at marriage and with time, the Crown (with the blessing of our father, we supposed).”
