Prince Harry ready to 'repair' royal rift but Meghan Markle wants 'nothing to do with it'

Prince Harry is keen to “repair” the relationship with the Royal Family but Meghan Markle “doesn’t want anything to do with it”, according to an insider.

The Duke of Sussex rushed to the UK last week after his father King Charles told him he had been diagnosed with a form of cancer. Meghan remained at home in California with the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Father and son are understood to have only seen each other for around 45 minutes, with the prince returning to the US around 24 hours later.

Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the Royal Family has plunged after the Sussexes made a series of claims against them, first in an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey and then in their Netflix documentary series. Harry also made further claims in his memoir, Spare.

An insider has now said that while Harry believes he must attempt to heal the rift with his family, Meghan doesn’t want to be a part of it.

Meanwhile, Harry has been tipped to return to the UK for a longer visit so King Charles can meet his grandchildren face to face.

Speaking to Daily Express US after the price flew back to the US having only arrived in the UK the previous day, royal expert Pauline Maclaran said: “I’m not surprised that Harry has only made a flying visit.

“I think he would have wanted to see his father face to face to offer his support, but he will also not want to make the King’s health issue appear more serious by staying around.

“He is also likely to want to get back to his family in the US.”

She added: “This does seem to be a very positive step in terms of developing better relations with his father. I imagine he may make a longer visit in due course to allow the King to meet his grandchildren face to face.”
