A royal expert has claimed Prince Harry “needs the royals more than they need him” as the Duke of Sussex attempts to rebuild his relationship with his family before Christmas. Royal insider Tom Quinn said Harry and Meghan Markle will attempt to rekindle frosty relations with King Charles and the rest of the royal family in order to allow a festive reunion to take place at Sandringham.
For the last four years, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have remained in their California home with their two children for the festive period rather than travelling to Norfolk with the rest of the family.
But it was thought this year could see the pair mend ties and return to the royal estate, however recent controversy stemming from Omid Scobie’s Endgame book could have ended that.
Quinn said: “I suspect that because Harry is beginning to realise he needs the royal family more than the royal family needs him, he may well try again to patch up the relationship as we get towards Christmas Day.”
Quinn said Harry and Meghan would have to accept that Prince William and Kate Middleton would still outrank them due to their status in the minds of global audiences, adding that the King may use Christmas to demonstrate his close relationship with William.
He added: “I don’t think Harry and Meghan will be able to overshadow Kate and William this Christmas, or at least not in the UK.
“I expect the Royal family will make sure William and Kate and their children are very visible right across the Christmas holidays as it’s a special time.
